ISLAMABAD: TikTok, the popular social media platform, announced on Monday that it has removed more than 20 million videos in Pakistan during the first quarter of 2024. These videos were taken down for violating the platform’s community guidelines.
Swift Action Against Violations
In its Community Guidelines Enforcement Report for the first quarter of 2024, TikTok revealed that about 93.9% of the videos that broke the rules were removed within 24 hours of being posted. Globally, the proactive removal rate for such videos was 99.8%.
TikTok said that this report is part of its ongoing effort to create a safe and positive online space. The platform emphasized its “unwavering commitment to transparency, safety, and inclusivity,” aiming to build trust and ensure a secure environment for its worldwide users.
Global Removal Statistics
Globally, TikTok removed a total of 166,997,307 videos during the same period, which represents about 0.9% of all videos uploaded to the platform. Out of these, 129,335,793 videos were identified and removed through automated detection technologies. Additionally, 6,042,287 videos were reinstated after further review.
Filtering Comments for Safety
For the first time, TikTok also shared the number of comments that were removed and filtered using its comment safety tools. During the three-month period, the platform removed and filtered 976,479,946 comments. This step was taken to enhance transparency and maintain a positive environment for users.
Combating Spam Accounts
Besides removing inappropriate videos and comments, TikTok also took strong actions against spam accounts. The platform implemented robust measures to prevent the spread of automated spam accounts, ensuring a better user experience for everyone.
